CHRIS
Butcher. 40s. From the Shires.
Left school at 16. B, a few Cs, a D. No college — straight into work. Flat roofs, cavity walls, office desks. Then a cutting plant. Cold beef quarters and lamb. A man's job, among men who took the piss and had each other's backs. Good years.
Then chronic pancreatitis. 6ft tall, admitted at 38kg. I went from lifting cow quarters to struggling to lift a kettle.
Two years on the phone. Battling robots to speak to a human, who'd fob me off. Nurses who can't prescribe. Doctors I can't understand. A surgeon who brought the wrong connector while blood ran down my arm. It's all in my medical records.
I've always worked and paid my way. Now I can't work. Not on benefits — because I'm not a refugee.

- 01 The NHS is broken. Two years of my life wasted on a phone tree while my body wasted away. Nurses doing doctors' jobs. Doctors who can't speak English. A system that treats natives as a nuisance and asylum seekers as customers.
- 02 Immigration gutted my trade. When the Eastern Europeans arrived, piece work died — replaced by minimum wage. 27 foreign workers for every one native Brit. Men who'd live ten to a house and still send money home. And now they wonder why kids can't find Saturday jobs. A 45-year-old Pakistani has that shift.
- 03 London is a zoo. My niece can't ride a bus without being leered at by men who've never seen a woman's ankle. We used to be a high-trust society. Now we're a low-trust, low-skill dumping ground for the third world.
- 04 My country is being ruined. By liberal dimwits and radical Islamists. By a political class that sold us out and calls it diversity. Am I fed up? Fuck yes. Will it break me? NO.
